IT specialists in the UK
Stop complaining and catch up with skills!
Andy McCue signs a recent article published by www.silicon.com in which he invokes the report released in November by the British Computer Society (BCS), according to which:
“The growing trend to offshore IT skills overseas should not just be viewed as a threat by UK IT pros.”
The IT professionals in UK should rather take a step back and take a better look at their choice of profession with a clear, sober eye. It’s not that they won’t be needed any longer from now on because of the offshoring rage, it’s that they would have to catch up with their mates in poorer, yet resourceful countries like Romania, holding top positions in Europe and worldwide as far as IT skills are concerned:
“While many low-end IT jobs will migrate to low-cost offshore bases where wages are much lower, the BCS claims there will be better opportunities for those IT pros with a more rounded skills profile that includes business analysis.”
BCS CEO David Clarke said it is time for a new career model for IT pros that helps evolve their skills beyond a purely technical environment:
"The challenge for British professionals now is to gear up for the rapid globalisation of the IT services industry that is well underway. Traditional IT skills such as software development have become globally ubiquitous and a narrow focus on technical skills and their application will not help tomorrow’s professionals. But all too often, IT staff can underestimate their business knowledge and expertise, too."
