RIS Opened a New ASM Outsourcing Centre

Location? The least one would have expected: Romania.

“Lapidem quem reprobaverunt aedificantes,
hic factus est in caput anguli.”

"The stone which the builders rejected;
the same is become the head of the corner."

(Book of Psalms CXVII/CXVIII,22)

The famous Canadian company Resource Information Systems (www.rsi.ca) announced of late officially the inauguration of its new offshoring centre, located in Bucharest, Romania. It is the last component added to a puzzle that is now solved and ready to make money, the one piece of investment that completes the picture and presumably will turn out to be the cornerstone of the entire effort, in the sense of profitability and doing good business.

Who would have expected, one may as well ask? Well, the truth is that “the stone, which the builders rejected, the same has become the head of the corner” (see motto), for - as Benjamin Disraeli once so eloquently put it - “the unexpected always happens”. And indeed, it looks like the guys from RIS finally got it, and caught the drift that so many other business people out there still fail to catch: cost effectiveness, mutual cultural background, and favourable time-belt.

But let us have a look at the statements made by Mr. Peter Thompson (RIS CEO) himself with regards to this issue. On of the things that made Romania an attractive location for the Canadian IT concern was the time-belt:

"We do have that little bit of overlap with Europe, whereas with India we're totally opposite! Romania is only a day away, while India is two days — it's just that much further! If you want to send over management teams, it takes double time to get to India."

Mr. Thompson also underlined the fact that the Indian outsourcing firms are "in a bit of a whirlwind right now of high turnover and a dramatic increase in wages", all the while Romania, being a relatively new offshoring location, does not turn up with such discouraging hindrances before potential investors.

Referring to statistics from Brainbench, a Chantilly, Virginia-based online skills, aptitude and knowledge measurement solutions provider, Thompson also mentioned that Romania ranks sixth in the world in number of certified IT pros. Its government seems determined to attract and retain IT business by overlooking IT specialists from income tax, he added.

On the Services of the company’s website one can read some very interesting statements:

“RIS is acutely aware of the cost savings associated with offshore and nearshore outsourcing delivery models and their dramatic rise in adoption in recent years. We know that CIOs are under increased pressure to explore these options, and that up to 80% will consider offshore and nearshore outsourcing in the near future. As such, we offer clients a combination of on-site, near-site, near-shore, and off-shore for maximum flexibility and cost-savings.”

“To address our clients’ growing need for offshore options, RIS operates an offshore Solution Centre in Bucharest, Romania. Boasting one of Europe’s highest levels of IT certification, Romania enables us to deliver high quality services at lower costs, without the proximity, culture and quality issues associated with typical offshore hubs.”

As one might have expected, a clever investor would always know where to look in order to find the right source of income (in this case, the appropriate offshoring location), as the people at RIS have proven recently. Romania is a goldmine unbeknownst to many business people around the world, yet the intelligent entrepreneurs will know how to take advantage of this opportunity, for the times are ready, and chance will always favour a prepared mind.
