India Is About To Lose Its Position
As The Offshore Biggest Attraction

Because good enough is…
…just not good enough

It looks like the big Indian offshore IT firms are trying to set up centres in Eastern Europe. This is a living proof that they are clearly losing ground in favour of the outsourcing companies located closer to UK, physically and metaphysically, i.e., geographically AND culturally: Eastern Europe.

The present still inclines the balance's scale in favour of the Indian subcontinent, but, interestingly enough, a new kind of pattern is being born right under our noses in former communist countries like Romania, Czechoslovakia or Poland.

The fact that the biggest Indian outsourcing companies show interest in the BPO firms emerging in Eastern Europe sheds, beyond the shadow of a doubt, light on their own awareness as with regard to the imminent death of this trend on Indian ground and its resurrection in good old Europe.

The outsourced services provided in Eastern Europe are not only cheaper, but also more dependable. Romania, for example, is, after all, still located in Europe, not somewhere in Asia – we're just a few blocks away, so to speak, not at the end of the world. Also, Romanian is a Romanic language, being close related to and belonging to the same linguistic family as Italian, French or Spanish, so much so, that Romanians can easily understand French or Italian without any particular efforts, whereas the Frenchman or Italian tourist can find his way in Romania on his own, without the burden of pulling along a translator.

Mind you, Romania is the only country in the world whose name, etymologically, goes back to Rome - not even Italy, whose capital Rome is, shares this privilege. Besides, just like Poland or Czechoslovakia, Romanians are, in the vast majority of them, Christians, just like the rest of Europe, not Hindus, Muslims or Buddhists – we DO speak a common language!

So even though India remains dominant for the time being, everyone else is catching up real quick. Kevin Lloyd, CTO at Barclays Bank, stated recently that he “doesn't really care where in the world the services are being dealt with, as long as the cost and quality are right”.
